So, I was messing around with those tarot cards today, you know, the ones with all the fancy pictures. I don’t really buy into the whole fortune-telling thing, but they’re kinda cool to look at. I pulled out this one card with a regal-looking lady on it, and I thought, “Huh, I wonder what this is all about?”

I did some digging around online, just to see what folks say about this card. Turns out, it’s called the Empress. I guess she’s a pretty big deal in the tarot world. I also found some names of other regal figures on other cards. They are called The Magician, Wheel of Fortune, Justice and so on.
From what I gathered, this Empress card has been around for a long time, like way back in the 15th century. Apparently, these cards weren’t always used for telling the future. They were part of some game called “tarocchi” or something like that. Back then, the Empress was shown as this powerful woman sitting on a throne, all decked out in royal gear. Pretty much what you’d expect from an empress, right?
Then there’s the Magician card. It’s marked as number I. I guess it’s also powerful, but what does it mean? I have no idea.
And those suits also have some meanings. For example, the wands are for creativity, the swords are for intellect, the pentacles are for money, and the cups are for emotion. Also, the wands = fire, swords = air, pentacles = Earth, and cups = water.
There’s also a card called “Wheel of Fortune.” The meaning is about destiny, fortune, success and so on.
Anyway, I just thought it was interesting how this one picture of a lady on a throne could have so much history and meaning behind it. It’s more than just a drawing, I guess. It got me thinking about how things can change over time and how different people can see different things in the same picture. It’s kinda like looking at a piece of art, but with a little bit of mystery thrown in.
I’m not saying I’m suddenly a tarot expert or anything, but it was a fun little dive into something new. Maybe I’ll look at these cards a little differently next time I see them. Who knows, maybe there’s more to these pictures than I thought.
